Debenhams empty store could be turned into a library

• THE proposal to repurpose the empty Debenhams store as a library should be seized and acted upon by the council.

Westminster City Council has a long overdue commitment to deliver a top class library and this empty building offers the space for a fully staffed adult and children’s lending and reference library with work stations and break-out areas.

A street level café, along with a roof garden and restaurant, would generate income while a citizens’ advice bureau and crèche would meet the needs of residents, library users and the public.

Here is an opportunity for the city council to offer more than just a “shopping experience” with a practical, educational, and unique building in Oxford Street.
